Soggy Winter Predicted For Georgia: AccuWeather Forecast

This winter expect plenty of rain in the Atlanta region, predicts AccuWeather.com.

ATLANTA, GA — After weeks of blistering heat and humidity in the 90s, the Atlanta metro is enjoying a break from the outdoor furnace. So predictions of a cool and rainy winter might not sound too bad. A new, long-range winter weather forecast has been released by Accuweather.com and it's predicting a soggy winter for the Southeast.

AccuWeather long-range forecaster Paul Pastelok says the Southeast is more likely to experience a wet couple of months.

As storms move into the east early on in the season, the warm water from the Gulf of Mexico could generate a significant amount of rain. However, it’s not out of the question that the region could experience a winter storm, similar to last season, which brings snow or ice to North Carolina.

Followers of the Farmers' Almanac are bracing for a snowy, bone-chilling season while the Old Farmer's Almanac's devotees are shunning snow blowers and taking out umbrellas.

The two meteorologic publishers may have almost identical names, but their long-range forecasts are like night and day.

The Farmers' Almanac, which released its prediction on Aug. 26, expects a brisk and wet winter in Atlanta. Winter weather will last into April. The coldest snap of the winter is expected hit during the last week of January 2020 and stretch into February, according to the forecast. Don't expect an early spring next year, the almanac says.

The competing Old Farmer's Almanac, which unveiled its forecast in September, also expects the Georgia's winter to be"mild, with soakers" in the coming months.

Both use secret formulas to predict the weather that they keep closely guarded. The two made opposite predictions last winter too, with the Farmers' Almanac warning it would be colder and snowier than normal, while the Old Farmer's Almanac predicted the Northeast would be warm, wet and with less snow than on average. The winter of 2018-19 fell somewhere between the two forecasts.
