Summer Wine Fest And Back-To-School Bash: Atlanta This Weekend

ATLANTA, GA – School may be back in session, but the summer fun shows no signs of slowing down. For curious sippers, this weekend will play host to both the Dames And Dregs Beer Fest and the Atlanta Summer Wine Fest. If you feel like getting active, there’s also the Dirty South Yoga Fest and Fun Day In Piedmont Park.

And for Atlanta Public School students and their families, be sure to stop by the Georgia World Congress Center for your Back-To-School Bash! Here’s what else is happening around the city:


Dirty South Yoga Fest

Kicking off on Friday, the Dirty South Yoga Fest is described as “a community and yoga inspired event featuring a diverse sampling of Atlanta's instructors for a weekend of yoga, workshops, community, and festivities” that aims to support, spotlight and celebrate local yoga in Atlanta. Among the classes scheduled during the three-day event are Heart-Core Astonishment, Crystal Flow & Meditation and Thai Yoga Bodywork.

Back-To-School Bash

Neighborhood: Downtown

Held exclusively for Atlanta Public School students, this weekend’s Back-To-School Bash will be jam-packed with exhibitors and exciting activities for students. There will also be health screenings, and for a limited-time, APS students can receive a free backpack stuffed with back-to-school goodies (Students must show their APS report card).

Atlanta Summer Wine Fest

Neighborhood: Old Fourth Ward

Although summer is slowly winding down, the Atlanta Summer Wine Fest is expected to bring hundreds of wine lovers to City Winery this weekend. In addition to over 50 wines, there will also be a small selection of craft beer available for sampling. Admission includes unlimited samples, live entertainment and a souvenir acrylic wine glass.

Decatur BBQ Blues & Bluegrass Festival

Neighborhood: Decatur

BBQ is always a good idea— and you can expect plenty of smoky, grilled and delicious dishes at the 19th annual Decatur BBQ Blues & Bluegrass Festival. With more than enough food and live music, it’s no surprise that the festival prides itself on “Cold Beer, Tasty BBQ and Great Tunes!” Admission is $15 and will go up to $20 on the day of the festival.

Dames And Dregs Beer Fest

Neighborhood: Downtown

Back for its second year, the Dames And Dregs Beer Fest aims to celebrate women, the original brewer. Held in Kenny’s Alley and the newly-relocated Masquerade, the festival will of course include samples from a number of local favorites, including Orpheus Brewing, Three Tavern Craft Beers, Down Home Brewing and Creature Comforts Brewing Co. You can snag a general admission ticket for $35 or a perk-filled VIP ticket for $50.

Love Stories of Oakland: Summer Date Night

Neighborhood: Grant Park

If date nights consisting of dinner and a movie have become rather dull, consider heading to Oakland Cemetery for their Summer Date Night series. The evening tour will make 20 stops through Oakland’s Victorian garden cemetery. Love Stories Of Oakland will also examine the “symbolism of love and devotion found on monuments, headstones, and mausoleums throughout the grounds.”

Fun Day In Piedmont Park

Neighborhood: Midtown

For students and their families looking to let loose before all of Atlanta officially heads back to school, then be sure to make your way to Piedmont Park for a day of fun. Hosted by Super Top Bouncers, Fun Day In Piedmont Park will feature inflatable attractions, obstacle courses, live music and more.
