Three-Month-Old Baby Killed, Mother Critically Hurt In Atlanta House Fire

The fire was already raging by the time firefighters arrived and it was too late to save the three-month-old baby.

ATLANTA, GA – A three-month-old baby girl is dead and her mother is in critical condition following a fire at a vacant northwest Atlanta home early Thursday morning.

According to a report by Fox 5 Atlanta, firefighters received a call around 2 a.m. about a fire at a vacant home on Paines Avenue.

According to the television station, heavy flames were already coming from the front door and heavy smoke coming through the roof by the time firefighters arrived.

Fire officials said it took them about 20 minutes to get the fire under control. It was during an initial sweep of the home that they found a woman in a bathroom.

"She had severe burns, but was breathing when she was being transported to hospital," Sgt. Cortez Stafford told Fox 5 Atlanta.

The woman was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

It was during a second sweep of the home that firefighters discovered the baby’s body.
