Tractor-Trailer Crash Injures 5, Closes Intersection: Reports

ATLANTA, GA — A collision between a van and a tractor-trailer closed down an intersection in northwest Atlanta for hours Monday and sent five people to a local hospital, with two in critical condition, according to media reports. The accident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. at Marietta Boulevard and Tacoma Drive, the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department said.

Firefighters remained on the scene Monday afternoon due to a diesel fuel spill from the overturned tractor-trailer, as crews cleaned up debris from the accident. The cause of the accident was unclear, and police are investigating it, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

The collision left the driver of the van trapped in his vehicle, and firefighters had to extricate him. He was taken in critical condition to a local hospital, according to media reports.

Three passengers in the van were also injured, one of them critically, a fire department spokesman told the AJC. The conditions of the other two passengers were unknown.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was able to climb out of his rig and was in stable condition, the fire spokesman said.
