TSA Closes Some Checkpoints At Atlanta Airport: Coronavirus

ATLANTA, GA — Two security checkpoints at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International domestic terminal are closed, the airport tweeted Tuesday morning. Passengers are being directed to the main checkpoint.

The news comes a day after a TSA employee tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus.

According to WGCL, the officer last worked on March 7 in Terminal F, the international terminal, during morning departures.

"The officer is receiving medical care and is quarantined at home,” the TSA said in a statement. “TSA employees who have come in contact with the officer who tested positive during the past 14 days were alerted about the situation.”

More officers have called off work, the TSA says, after learning that a colleague tested positive for the new coronavirus.

The number of passengers nationwide going through security Friday was down more than 38 percent, compared to a year ago, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Globally, more than 185,000 people have been infected and more than 7,00 people have died from the COVID-19, Johns Hopkins reported Tuesday. Of that total, more than 81,000 confirmed cases are in China, while the entire United States has 4,600 confirmed cases as of Tuesday. Forty-eight deaths in the U.S. have been tied to the virus outbreak.
