ATLANTA, GA — The charitable acts from Atlanta media mogul Tyler Perry keep coming.

Perry donated 5,000 Thanksgiving meals to people in need from his Atlanta movie studio, Tyler Perry Studios, on Sunday. The actor, perhaps most known for his "Madea" movies," personally funded the event that included a combination of food boxes and Kroger gift cards, according to a report from People Magazine.

The giveaway — called TPS Giving — lasted four hours, with cars lined up as early as 12 hours before it began, People reported. Perry's studio employees donated their time to hand out the meals.

The event was drive-thru only, and all employees were tested for coronavirus before helping out, the report said.

People standing in line for food across the country motivated the star to do it.

"Tyler was heartbroken seeing people all over the country stand in line for food, so he decided he wanted to give back to his community in Atlanta," someone close to Perry told People. "Hopefully this encourages others who are able to, to give back during the holiday season in a year that has been difficult for many.”

It's the latest in a series of charitable acts headed by Perry and his foundation, The Perry Foundation.

Just this year, Perry has donated numerous $50 Kroger gift cards to Atlanta police officers, so they could hand them out to people door-to-door, released a public service announcement about the dangers of human trafficking and paid for the college tuition for the three children of Rayshard Brooks, a Black man shot by Atlanta police outside a Wendy's.

In June, Perry gifted a car to an Atlanta woman who is known for delivering health and hygiene bags to the homeless. He purchased a new van for Erica Wright of Project U First.
