Veteran’s Cane Taken From Georgia Gas Station

Kendra Pieper said she doesn't care who took the cane adorned with her Purple Heart Medal and badges — she just wants it back.

NEWBORN, GA — A Georgia veteran is hoping the public can help reunite her with a cane she says told her story without her "saying a word.”

In a post on Facebook, Kendra Pieper said she stopped to fill up at a Chevron gas station in Newborn. She leaned her cane against a pump while she put gas in her car but didn’t realize she forgot it there until after she left the station, about 25 minutes later.

By the time someone returned to get it, the cane was gone.

In her post, Pieper said she was given the cane shortly after she lost her leg. It was decorated with her name and rank, her military badges, her Purple Heart Medal and a Fallen Soldier Battle Cross. The cane also says "Ripcord,” which Pieper said was her call sign downrange.

“The cane was made for me,” Pieper wrote.

When gas station staff reviewed security camera footage, they discovered the cane was taken by someone driving a white Suburban. The footage didn’t capture the vehicle’s license plate.

Since Pieper posted the call on Facebook, it’s been shared more than 391,000 times. Some even offered to custom-make Pieper a new cane.

“I know it can’t replace that one but, it’s the least we can do for one another, brothers and sisters,” wrote Rich Possert.

Pieper wrote that she doesn’t care who took the cane or why — she just wants it back.

"I feel that my cane told my story without me saying a word,” she wrote. “It answered people’s questions without them having to ask."
