Man Who Allegedly Shot Deputy Found Dead After SWAT Standoff

A Hall County deputy was wounded while deputies were serving a warrant Friday in Barrow County.

The man who was involved in a SWAT standoff that wounded a deputy Friday afternoon in Barrow County was found dead inside the residence, the sheriff’s office said.

The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office said a Hall County deputy was wounded as deputies were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on a murder suspect.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is trying to determine if the suspect, identified as Jason Farmer, died of a self-inflicted wound or was hit during the shootout, WSB-TV reported.

The Barrow SWAT was called to the scene when Farmer apparently barricaded himself inside the residence.

“A camera was utilized to look into the building where the suspect was located and the Sheriff’s Office SWAT team made entry and found the suspect deceased,” the Barrow sheriff’s office said on Facebook.

The GBI has taken over the investigation.

Barrow County SWAT has been on the scene Friday afternoon at a standoff with a murder suspect in the Melinda Drive area, where a deputy suffered a gunshot wound.

The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office said the deputy was hit as Hall County deputies were attempting to serve an arrest warrant.

The injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Authorities said on Facebook around 3:45 p.m. that residents should stay clear of the area.
