Woman Found Lying Beside Roadway Asks to Go to Jail Rather Than Hospital

The suspect told an officer she had smoked a bowl of "Ice."

A woman found lying on a concrete slab just off the roadway of Lily Drive asked that she be taken to jail rather than a hospital after she told a Winder police officer she had smoked a bowl of “Ice.”

The incident occurred about 6:22 p.m. July 7. The officer who responded to the area observed the woman talking to herself, picking at her skin and exhibiting jerking movements. The woman reportedly admitted to having ingested meth and said she was in between residences and had nowhere to go. When the officer told the suspect she needed to go to a hospital to try to seek treatment, she said she was not going to a hospital and wished to go to jail.

The officer obliged, and Jessica Dawn Stewart, 29, of 810 Tim Miller Road in Bethlehem, was arrested and charged with public intoxication before being released to staff at the Barrow County Detention Center.
