Christ Church Presbyterian Wants to Build New Building

Construction to incorporate existing structure.

Christ Church Presbyterian Inc. wants to build a new church via renovations to an existing building at 1740 Peachtree St. NW just off 25th St NW.

The plans call for the new church to be on the eastern portion of the lot and it will have rear parking for 44 vehicles.

As envisioned, the new building will incorporate the existing office building.

When complete it will be about 54,000 square feet on three floors, according to a filing submitted to a Feb. 28 filing with the city of Atlanta's Office of Planning.

The plans say the first floor will be comprised of children's classrooms, a youth classroom , bathrooms and an exterior play area.

It also will have storage rooms and space for mechanical equipment.

The second floor is to include the lower level of the church sanctuary with enough seating for 730. A gallery, the adult classrooms, the kitchen and additional bathrooms as well as storages and mechanical equipment storagre areas will be on the second floor as well.

The filing also states the corner entrance to the site will lead to the second floor level, while the space that fronts Peachtree Street will be for a coffee shop.

On the third floor is to be the sanctuary's upper level with seating for 216 and the church offices, as well space for more bathrooms, storage and mechanical equipment rooms.

The is remaining space on the third floor that will be set aside for future expansion.

The existing roof will be replaced to incorporate a recreational roof terrace and the upper sanctuary.

The building additions will be steel framed and ciad with porcelain tile. At the West and north side, the existing brick facades will remain.
