Garden Hills OK's Brand Properties Proposal

The neighborhood's civic association has given its blessing to the developer's plans to transform the former Garden Hills Cinema site.

The Garden Hills Civic Association has given the green light to Brand Properties’ retooled proposal for a new development on the site of the old Garden Hills shopping center.

After an hour of discussions, the civic association approved Brand’s plan by a vote of 18-2, with two voters abstaining from the vote. The final vote was the culmination of months of negotiations which saw Brand drastically redesign its project to mollify the concerns of neighbors, BuckheadView says.

The redesigned space will feature extensive brickwork, be ten feet shorter than the original design, and will put more parking under Peachtree Road by digging out the back of the property.

Brand’s previous design for the property called for a six story office tower with six stories of below ground parking and a separate two story retail structure.

Now that Brand has gotten the OK from Garden Hills, the developers expect to go before Neighborhood Planning Unit (NPU) B’s Zoning Committee next week to get official approval from that body. If the zoning committee approves of Brand’s plans, construction could commence early next year.
