RFP Issued for 'Park in the Sky' Concept

The Buckhead Community Improvement District will accept proposals from developers on making a "floating park" above Ga. 400.

BUCKHEAD, GA -- The Buckhead Community Improvement District (CID) has issued a request for proposals (RFP) from companies interested in building a “floating park” above a section of Ga. 400, according to a report.

Some CID leaders are eager to see what proposals are sent their way, BuckheadView says, but others on the board felt the idea was too far-fetched and not a financially sound idea.

Board member Scott Selig and Simon Properties representative Robin Suggs said the money for a “park in the sky” should instead be used on improving the ramps from Ga. 400 to Lenox Loop Road, which have been dubbed the Buckhead Gateway, BuckheadView says.

The “park in the sky” concept calls for building a 90-acre park from Peachtree to Lenox roads but over both Ga. 400 and the Buckhead MARTA station.

The CID originally committed $10,000 to a feasbility study for the project back in March, but at the time was not sure what entity, if any, owned the airspace immediately above the site.
