$2.6 Million in Grants to Boost AP Classes
Gwinnett County Public Schools and Buford City Schools among 11 school systems sharing $2.6 million in grants from the Goizueta Foundation of Atlanta to boost Advanced Placement course participation.
Gwinnett County Public Schools and Buford City Schools are among 11 Georgia school systems that will take part in a new College Board initiative to increase the number of students taking Advanced Placement courses.
The program is being funded with $2.6 million in grants from the Goizueta Foundation of Atlanta. It will be implemented over the next three years, the College Board reported.
Besides Gwinnett County, other districts receiving funds include those in Atlanta, Buford, Cobb County and Fulton County. In particular, officials want to focus on districts with increasing number of Hispanic students.

Among other things, teachers will engage in special training, and all Advanced Placement (AP) courses in the district will have to adopt an "open enrollment" format so more students have access to the classes, the College Board said.
