Be Aware Kayakers, Tubers, Water Releases Can Be Dangerous

With summer weather quickly approaching, the Corps of Engineers at Lake Sydney Lanier warned water users to be aware of water releases.

BUFORD, GA — With summer weather quickly approaching, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Sydney Lanier warned kayakers, paddle boarders and tubers to be aware that attempting to launch down river during a water release is extremely dangerous and not permitted!

"Conditions on the river can change drastically, and many people have needed rescuing due to underestimating the power of the river and overestimating their abilities," The Corps posted on their Lake Lanier Facebook page.

To stay updated on water releases, please call 1-855-DAM-FLOW (1-855-326-3569) prior to putting in at Lower Pool West boat ramp. Be aware that releases are subject to change, and sirens are sounded 2-5 minutes prior to initial release.
