Beer And Wine Fest Set For Lanier Islands

BUFORD, GA — Beer and wine lovers within striking distance of Lake Lanier have something new to add to their calendars.

The Sunset Cove Beer & Wine Fest will be held Saturday, Oct. 14, starting at 1 p.m. at Lanier Islands. The festival will feature more than 100 beers and 25 wines, as well as opportunities to chat with distributors and make purchases. There will be live music on the Sunset Cove stage and college football on Lanier Islands' five-story tall outdoor screen.

Last call for the event will be 5 p.m., but guests are welcome to stay and stroll the resort's half-mile of beach, enjoy the view or eat at the Sunset Cove Beach Cafe.

"We’re really excited to present this event to our 21-and-older fans of the Islands," said Lanier Islands spokeswoman Missy Burgess. "Our Legacy Cruise Series – which involves a series of wine and scotch and cigar cruises – has been such a hit, that we’ve simply brought that same concept ashore at LanierWorld and supersized it."

The big screen will be showing the UGA-Missouri and Auburn-LSU football games. The band Whispering Gypsies will take the state from noon-4 p.m.

Festival-goers who tipple a bit too much to drive also can take advantage of overnight lodging options on Lanier Islands. Rooms at the resort's Legacy Lodge already are sold out, but additional rooms remain at the lakeside Legacy Villas and Legacy Lake Houses.

Tickets to the festival are $35 per person in advance and $50 the day of the event. (The first 250 people to buy tickets will get a discounted price of $25.) Tickets get guests access to the beach and gig screen, live entertainment and all the beer, wine and cider samples they'd like.
