Drowning Victim Taken To Hospital In Critical Condition

Gwinnett Fire responded at 5:17 p.m. to a report of a drowning Sunday at Buford Dam Park at Lake Lanier.

BUFORD, GA -- Gwinnett Fire responded at 5:17 p.m. to a report of a drowning Sunday at Buford Dam Park at Lake Lanier. The caller to 911 advised the man was out of the water and bystanders were providing CPR.

When firefighters arrived, Park Rangers from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and a Gwinnett County Police officer had taken over CPR from bystanders and applied an AED to the patient. Gwinnett Fire paramedics assessed the patient and transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Due to federal patient privacy laws known as HIPAA, Gwinnett Fire is unable to release patient identification.

Equipment at the scene included: 2-Engines, 1-Medic Unit and 1-Battalion Chief.
