Georgia DOT Seeking Public Input on Design for SR 347 Widening
Open house meeting scheduled for Oct. 10 at Lanier Islands Community Church in Buford.

The Georgia Department of Transportation is seeking public input on widening State Route 347 (Lanier Islands Parkway) at an open house meeting Thursday, Oct. 10.
The meeting is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lanier Islands Community Church, 302 Lanier Islands Parkway, in Buford. Georgia DOT engineers and consultants will be present to discuss the proposal.
GDOT has proposed to construct a 14-foot, two-way left turn lane or continuous center turning lane on SR 347 between McEver Road and Lake Lanier Islands, according to an article in AccessNorthGa.com. Right turn lanes would be added as needed at intersecting roads.Â

In addition, the SR 347 and New Bethany Road intersection would be reconfigured and relocated north of its existing location as a roundabout. The plan also includes a 10-foot-wide multi-use path and a five-foot-wide sidewalk.
There will not be a formal presentation during the open house.Â

All comments will be considered by GDOT in developing the final project design.Â
Following the open house meeting, plans and handouts can be viewed at the Georgia DOT Area Office located at 2594 Gillsville Highway in Gainesville.Â
Project information also will be available on the GDOT website after the meeting.Â
