Georgia Weather: Dangerous Cold Temps, Black Ice Threat

BREAKING: 'Frost bite and hypothermia will be possible if proper precautions are not taken,' according to the National Weather Service.

ATLANTA, GA — The risk of dangerous overnight temperatures has replaced most of the worry about snow storms in the metro forecast — though black ice will be a threat overnight, according to the National Weather Service. A wind chill advisory will be in effect from 7 p.m. until noon on Sunday.

The wind chill temperature, also known as the "feels like" temperature, will range from 10 degrees below zero to five degrees above zero in central and north Georgia, according to forecasters.

"Frost bite and hypothermia will be possible if proper precautions are not taken," the weather service warns. If you must be outdoors, wear a hat and gloves to protect yourself from the elements.

The weather service is also warning motorists about the potential for black ice on the roads as areas refreeze. "Use extreme caution on roads that remain snow and ice covered," forecasters warn in a statement.
