Gwinnett Teen Who Drowned in Fla. 'Lived Life to Fullest'

Aaron Michael Miller, 17, had just graduated high school and was about to turn 18 before the tragedy near New Smyrna Beach, Fla.

The Gwinnett County teenager who drowned off a Florida beach last weekend was ready to start the rest of his life before tragedy struck.

Aaron Michael Miller, 17, of Lawrenceville, was reportedly on vacation with family at New Smyrna Beach, Fla., when he vanished off the beach Sunday around 5 p.m. His body was found the next day.

Miller was a recent graduate of Central Gwinnett High and was to turn 18 on June 13, according to his obituary, which said he loved music and wanted to pursue a career in the financial industry.

“Aaron was fearless, he lived life to the fullest and had lots of friends. Family was everything to Aaron he loved them dearly. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.”

The Gwinnett Daily Post reported Miller and his family had just arrived in New Smyrna Beach and were still unpacking when he, a brother and best friend headed for the beach. The Post reported Miller was caught in a rip current as helpless onlookers saw him swept away.

Miller was one in a set of triplets, the newspaper reported.

Volusia County, Fla., authorities said Miller’s body was found Monday morning by a couple who was swimming in shallow water near the beach.

Visitation is scheduled 12 p.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, June 7, at Wages & Sons Gwinnett Chapel, and will be followed by a memorial service from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
