Your Fourth of July plans should include an umbrella, according to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, which said showers and thunderstorms are possible for much of the state on the holiday.

“The best chances for thunderstorms will be across portions of north Georgia during the afternoon and evening,” the weather service said. “A few of these storms could be strong to severe. Remember, when thunder roars...go indoors!”
Storms also are in the forecast for Friday and Sunday, too, so remember to be prepared for inclement weather while you’re outdoors picnicking, swimming and watching fireworks this weekend.

Here’s the lowdown:
- Friday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
- Friday night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. West wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.
- Independence Day: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. West wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.
- Saturday night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67.
- Sunday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84.
- Sunday night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68.
- Monday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 86.
