Mimi's Cafe Bounces Back After Failed Health Inspection

BUFORD, GA — A popular dining spot near the Mall of Georgia has gotten a clean bill of health, rebounding a little over a week after health inspectors gave it a failing grade.

Mimi's Cafe, at 1880 Mall of Georgia Blvd. in Buford, earned a 96/A on its follow-up inspection Wednesday.

That came a little over a week after the restaurant had scored a 56/U.

After the first inspection, the restaurant's ownership said it was devoted to not letting a bad score happen again.

"Food safety is our top priority and we will continue to be proactive to ensure this does not happen again," read a statement from a spokesman for the restaurant. "While by law a re-inspection must be unannounced, we welcome it with confidence."

During Wednesday's inspection, the only problem keeping Mimi's away from a perfect score was some buildup inspectors found on the nozzles of a soda-dispensing machine. Employees removed those nozzles and cleaned them.

Earlier this month, improper food storage was a main reason the restaurant scored so low.

According to the inspection report, raw chicken was being stored behind salmon and shrimp and above hamburger meat in the restaurant's cooler.

Washed tomatoes were being stored with other, dirty vegetables on top of them, raw salmon was being stored above bread and cantaloupe, sliced boiled eggs and pancake mix all were found being stored at temperatures that were higher than they should be (The limit is 41 degrees).

The bad score was a departure from Mimi's earlier inspections. The French-inspired eatery had earned a 92/A on its last inspection report in August.
