10 Cherokee Firefighters Promoted In Ceremony
They include the first woman in the Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services department promoted to captain.

HOLLY SPRINGS, GA — Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services announced that 10 firefighters were promoted on Monday night, March 4, during ceremonies at the Cherokee County Fire Training Complex, just south of Holly Springs. They included Lt. Sarah Love, the first woman to be promoted to the rank of captain, according to Chief Tim Prather
After a brief welcome from the chief, the firefighters were asked to come forward to receive their promotion warrant:
- Along with Love, Lt. Keith Berryman was promoted to the rank of captain.
- Ross Young, Cesar Saavedra and Tim Carter were promoted to the rank of sergeant.
- Two firefighters were promoted to the rank of lieutenant: Sgt. David Miller and Sgt. Frank Madonna.
- Three firefighters were promoted to the rank of battalion chief: Capt. Chad Davis, battalion chief for Field Operations, Capt. Scott Deal, battalion chief for the Training Division and Capt. Thomas Capps, battalion chief for Field Operations.
Chief Prather also recognized Kevin Lanier, who recently became a battalion chief shift commander.
