Allen Carden Named Sequoyah's Head Boys Basketball Coach

Carden's 30-year career includes multiple state tournament berths for high school teams in Florida and in Georgia.

HICKORY FLAT, GA -- Sequoyah High School has tapped Allen Carden to serve as the school's next head boys basketball coach.

Carden, an NCCAA All-American First Team member and whose 30-year head coaching record includes multiple state tournament berths, was selected from a pool of more than 50 applicants who applied for the position.

Principal Elliott Berman said Carden was the best choice for more than his experience, knowledge of the game and his winning record.

“Coach Carden was also selected because of his values, his maturity, his ability to motivate student-athletes and develop their athletic skills, his ability to build positive relationships and his commitment to support SHS’s entire athletic program,” said Berman, who added that Carden will teach physical education classes. “Sequoyah is happy to welcome Coach Carden and his family to the Hickory Flat community.”

An All-State selection in football, basketball and baseball his senior year, the Tunnel Hill native played college basketball at Tennessee Temple University. During his college career, Carden and his teammates amassed a 112-24 record and won a national championship.

He led Lassiter High’s team to a 69-44 record and two state tournament berths, and, most recently, has served as the Sprayberry High School head girls basketball coach for the past two seasons.

He and his wife, Tammy, have four children, all of whom are involved in basketball.
