Burglar Arrested After 911 Call, Smearing Peanut Butter On Window

A Canton man was arrested Tuesday night for breaking into Jiffy Freeze, 8046 Knox Bridge Highway, and smearing peanut butter on the windows.

CANTON, GA — After breaking into a Canton restaurant and smearing peanut butter on the windows, a man was arrested for burglary.

A Cherokee Sheriff's deputy was dispatched to the Jiffy Freeze restaurant, 8046 Knox Bridge Highway in Canton, overnight for a 911 hang up call. The deputy saw peanut butter that had been thrown against the interior windows of the building. The deputy also located broken glass on the ground near a side entrance.

The doors to the business were locked, but while scanning the interior of the building, the deputy saw a male hiding inside who eventually opened the door for the deputy.

Nicholas McLain, 27 of Canton, was taken into custody and charged with burglary, possession of tools for the commission of a crime and criminal trespassing.

Deputies determined McLain used a wooden handle to break into the restaurant. For unknown reasons, at some point McLain called 911 and then hung up.

McLain remains in custody at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with a $10,000 bond.
