The game, which was launched in 2014, was held Thursday evening at Cherokee High School in Canton.

The evening is designed to give football players, cheerleaders, band members and JROTC one last chance to take part in a high school game before they graduate.

After the traditional football season finishes, the six area high schools pool their senior football players for an NFL-style draft. Coaches are voted on and two teams are formed, a “cardinal” team and a “white” team.

The Senior Bowl is not limited to football players – the senior cheerleaders, band members and ROTC members from all six schools form teams to participate as well. ROTC members led the National Anthem while the cheerleaders led the crowds, and the band performed at half time. In all, 93 JROTC members, 62 cheerleaders, 149 band members and 98 football players participated in the game.

Keith Foust, a Georgia-based representative from Herff Jones, a Varsity Achievement Brand, made the initial introduction of Varsity Brands to the Cherokee County School District.

BSN SPORTS, in conjunction with Nike, ensured that the football players had the jerseys they needed for each athlete playing; Herff Jones Achievement and Yearbook provided the apparel for the band; Varsity Spirit provided the sweatshirts for the cheerleaders and Varsity Brands contributed apparel for the coaches and sponsors.

“We love hearing about schools working together as these six schools have done,” said Foust. “And we are appreciative that we had a chance to provide the resources we could to ensure that this event is a success.”

Varsity Brands was able to also enlist the six CCSD schools zones in fundraising efforts on behalf of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as part of the “Team Up for St. Jude, Spirited by Varsity” fundraising program.

A check presentation in the amount of $17,185.88 was made to St. Jude as part of the pre-game activities, and the school zone that raised the most received a St. Jude Bowl trophy.

In addition, Cherokee High School agreed to donate all of the evening’s door sales to St. Jude.

“It’s exciting any time we can tap into the positive things happening around the country,” said Rika Cuff, eastern division director for the Varsity Brands Impact team, which is dedicated to building school-based partnerships. “These students have come together and helped raised money for a cause beloved by the Varsity Brands family, and for that we are so grateful.”
