CCSD Senior Bowl Set For Thursday

More than 400 Cherokee County School District seniors will participate in the Second Annual CCSD Senior Bowl, which will be held on Thursday at Cherokee High School.

Varsity Brands is the title sponsor for the event. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m., and pre-game festivities will begin at 7 p.m. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
Admission is $5 at the gate.

The evening is designed to give football players, cheerleaders, band members and JROTC one last chance to take part in a high school game before they graduate.
Students to be featured include:
- 93 JROTC members
- 62 cheerleaders
- 149 band members
- 98 football players
Another special treat for the game: country music star Kurt Thomas is also scheduled to sing the National Anthem at the game.
Thomas, who hails from Dahlonega, has opened for some of the biggest names in country music, including Kenny Chesney, Brooks & Dunn, LeAnn Rimes, Gary Alan, Darius Rucker and the Zac Brown Band.
The school district and Varsity Brands have partnered for a very special fundraiser in support of St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Each school in the district conducted a fundraiser to support St. Jude Charities. Rika Cuff from Varsity Brands, Deputy Superintendent Dr. Brian Hightower, School Board Chair Kyla Cromer and zone principal leaders will make a check presentation to St. Jude as part of the pre-game festivities.
Cherokee High School has graciously agreed to give all gate receipts to the St. Jude fundraiser. Additional sponsors include:
- Gold level: Chick-fil-A, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Ed Voyles Dodge Jeep Chrysler
- Silver: Cherokee Grid-Iron Club, Cherokee Sports Hall of Fame, Credit Union of Georgia, Georgia Football Officials Association, J & H Sales, JD’s Bar-B-Q, Protech Printing;
- Bronze: Cherokee Youth Football and Creative Awards
A team breakfast and draft was held Saturday at River Ridge High School for the players to find out which jersey they would be wearing — red under Woodstock High School coach Brent Budde or white under Sequoyah High School coach James Teter.
