Cherokee County To Dedicate New Veterans Monument
The public is invited to the ceremony Tuesday to dedicate the new monument in Cherokee Veterans Park in Canton; brick pavers are available.

CANTON, GA — Cherokee County will host a ceremony on Tuesday for a new monument in Cherokee Veterans Park. The monument is dedicated to U.S. military veterans and is currently open to the public.
The public is invited to the dedication ceremony, scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday in the park, at 7345 Cumming Highway in Canton.
The design of the new monument was recommended by a steering committee of local veterans and approved by the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners. It was completed prior to Nov. 11, Veterans Day.

The centerpiece of the monument is a large American flag flying from a flagpole, with five granite walls and plaques depicting the names and mottos of each branch of the U.S. military. It also includes an area in tribute to those veterans who suffered captivity as prisoners of war or remain missing in action.
The monument's pentagon-shaped plaza includes seat walls and a five-pointed star with a column at each point and the seal of each branch of the armed services on the column.

Brick Pavers Available
Each point of the star has 4-by-8-inch and 8-by-8-inch brick pavers to thank military veterans and commemorate their service. Veterans, their families and civilians alike can participate in the monument by purchasing a brick paver.
Brick sales will resume this month and continue as long as space is available, according to Bryan Reynolds, the director of Cherokee Recreation and Parks. Bricks can be purchased online by visiting the Commemorative Brick Program at www.crpa.net or in person at the Recreation Center in Woodstock.
The next installation of bricks will be scheduled prior to Memorial Day 2019. All proceeds from brick sales are used for the design, construction and upkeep of the monument.
