Cherokee County Providing Coronavirus Vaccine For Residents

Starting Monday, coronavirus vaccinations will be provided in Cherokee County, including for those over the age of 65.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA —Starting Monday, coronavirus vaccinations will be provided at Cherokee, Fannin, Gilmer, Murray, Pickens and Whitfield counties to certain groups of individuals that will be part of the newly expanded Phase 1-A of the Georgia COVID-19 Vaccination Plan. They include:

  • Staff in clinical settings (e.g., physicians, nurses, pharmacists, EMS, laboratory staff, environmental services).
  • Residents and staff at long-term care facilities who have been unable to get vaccinated.
  • All adults 65-years-or-older and their caregivers, and law enforcement and fire personnel.

Eligible residents can call 1-888-881-1474 or register online to make an appointment. Residents must preregister to be vaccinated and must register in the county where they live or work. Walk-ins will not be accepted.

The North Georgia Health District is run by the Georgia Department of Public Health. Cherokee County government has no control or influence over their operations.

Georgia’s vaccine rollout is currently in Phase 1-A, which allows vaccination only of individuals listed in the groups above. The remaining rollout phases are as follows:

Phase 1-B

  • People who play a key role in keeping essential functions of society running, including:
  • Critical workforce employees (e.g., educational faculty and staff, court employees, nuclear power plant employees, air traffic controllers, food processing, grocery workers, transportation, etc.)

Phase 1-C

  • Adults under 65 with comorbidities

Phase 2

  • Individuals in homeless shelters
  • Individuals in congregate settings (e.g. homeless shelters, dormitories, group homes)
  • Individuals in jails, prisons, detention centers
  • Other people living in congregate settings
  • All adults between the ages of 41-64-years-old

Phase 3

  • Workers in industries important to the functioning of society and at moderate risk of exposure as listed in executive orders (e.g. hairstylists, barbers, restaurants, etc.)
  • Young adults between the ages of 16-39-years-old

Phase 4

  • Everyone residing in Georgia for whom the vaccine is recommended not included in previous vaccination phases
  • Children, once the vaccine is approved for pediatric use

The timing of Phases 1-B through 4 has not yet been announced.
