Cherokee Sheriff's Office Shares Halloween Safety Tips

If you're planning to trick or treat, the sheriff's office wants you to keep these safety tips in mind.

CANTON, GA — If you plan to head out to trick or treat with the little ones for Halloween this year, the Cherokee Sheriff's Office wants you to take note of these safety tips the agency is offering to the community.

To have a "fun and safe" Halloween, parents and trick-or-treaters are reminded to cross street at cross walks while perusing the neighborhood, CSO said. If you will be part of a trick-or-treating group sans parents, you are strongly encouraged to stay in groups. Of course, parents should accompany small children, only approach well-lit homes, use caution wearing dark, non-reflective costumes and inspect the goodies their children get prior to eating them.

If you're going to be driving while youngsters and their parents or guardians are trick-or-treating, please pay close attention to your surroundings Halloween night. Drivers should be prepared to brake for a child running across the road, CSO said.

The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office will have additional deputies on the streets Halloween night, and some neighborhoods will also hire off-duty deputies to be in their subdivisions.

"We hope everyone has a great time Halloween night, but please be cautious," the agency said. "If you see something that concerns you please don’t hesitate to call 911."
