Clay Shooting Classic Raises Funds For Reinhardt Athletes
The inaugural event will be held Friday, Oct. 14 at Garland Mountain Sporting Clays in Waleska.
WALESKA, GA -- Seeking a new and innovative way to raise funds for student-athlete scholarships, Reinhardt University will host its inaugural Clay Shooting Classic set for October.
“Our student-athletes give their all day-after- day in class, on the practice field and during games,” said Reinhardt Athletic Director Bill Popp. “The inaugural Clay Shooting Classic gives an alternative exciting fundraising event of which you can be a part. The money raised helps our current and future student-athletes offset the costs of earning their post-secondary education.”
The Clay Shooting Classic will be held at Garland Mountain Sporting Clays, located on Garland Mountain Trail in Waleska, on Friday, Oct. 14.

Funds raised from the event will benefit RU student-athletes like volleyball player, Ally Hurd.
"It means the world to me because I get to play the sport I love for four more years than I would have, and it helps with my tuition cost tremendously," Hurd said. "Playing for Reinhardt University has made me enjoy my college years to the fullest and made me who I am today."

Jeffrey Pourchier, assistant athletic director of advancement, said the event – the first of its kind at Reinhardt – was a collaborative idea among himself, Popp and Vice President for Advancement and Marketing Tim Norton.
“Once we heard that Garland Mountain was opening, we went up there and we looked at it,” Pourchier said. “It is just a beautiful site up there, and good things are going to come of this.”
Pourchier added that if the event gets 20 or more teams, they hope to have two session of shooting. Only one 12- or 20-gauge shotgun per team is needed, although each participate can bring their own or rent a shotgun from Garland Mountain Sporting Clays, he added.
The event is open to the public. Registration costs $450 per four-person team or $125 for individuals. Sponsorships, ranging from $250 to $10,000, also are available. Those who participate will receive lunch.
To register, visit www.reinhardt.edu/shootingclassic. Those interested in a sponsorship should contact Pourchier at JMP@Reinhardt.edu or (770) 720-5824. For more information about Garland Mountain Sporting Clays, visit garlandmountain.com.
