Crime Spree Ends As Canton Man Arrested: Police

Jacob Cole Henson, 25, is facing a variety of charges, including burglary and reckless driving, says the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA — After a long chase, Cherokee sheriff's deputies on Monday apprehended a Canton man who had been on the run from law enforcement for more than a week, according to a police report. The deputies took Jacob Cole Henson, 25, into custody when a local resident held him at gunpoint, the sheriff's office said.

Henson is facing a variety of charges, including burglary, obstruction, fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, reckless conduct, no license plate, theft by taking (felony), theft by taking (misdemeanor) and two counts of felony criminal damage, the sheriff's office said. Additional charges are expected.

The deputies tracked down Henson after responding at about 3 a.m. Monday to the report of an accident on Little Refuge Road in Waleska, the sheriff's office said. They found a vehicle still running but unoccupied; it had been reported as stolen Sunday night from Dawson County.

Over the next few hours, the deputies and investigators searched the area for Henson. At about 12:30 p.m., the deputies spotted him riding a dirt bike on Little Refuge Road. "After a short chase, Henson crashed the dirt bike and fled into the woods," the sheriff's office said.

Sheriff Frank Reynolds and the deputies pursued him and heard shots fired nearby. They came upon a citizen who was holding Henson at gunpoint, the sheriff's office said.

After arresting Henson, they took him to Northside Hospital Cherokee in Canton to be examined for injuries from the dirt bike accident.
