Fire Causes Death Of 60-Year-Old Canton Woman

CANTON, GA — A 60-year-old woman died Sunday after her home off Red Fern Court in Canton caught on fire.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to a structure fire at 205 Red Fern Court in Canton at 10:45 a.m.

Cherokee County E-911 received a call regarding a massive amount of fire coming from a window of a two-story house on a basement. The caller attempted to put the fire out with an extinguisher and hose, but the flames continued to get more intense. It was unknown at that time if anyone was inside the house.

Cherokee County firefighters arrived at the scene and began an offensive attack on the fire, and located the body of a 60-year-old female on the living room sofa. The body was removed from the structure and taken to a safe location, and it was determined that the female was initially alive. She was taken to Northside Cherokee Hospital and died later.

The cause of the fire is unknown but continues to be investigated at this time.

This is the second fire fatality in Cherokee County in the past three days.
