Firefighter Injured While Fighting Fire In Canton

The fire destroyed contents of the basement and most of the items in the home, said Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services.

CANTON, GA — A Cherokee County firefighter suffered an injury to his knee while fighting a fire Tuesday afternoon at a home east of Canton, Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Service said.

Firefighters with the agency were dispatched around 12:30 p.m. Feb. 5 to a call of a fire in the 200 block of Lewis Way, which is located off Lower Scott Mill Road.

A 911 caller said the fire started in the basement of the home. Firefighters arrived to find a "working fire" in the basement of the double-wide mobile home, Cherokee fire said in its press release.

The firefighter was working the fire inside the residence when his knee was injured. That public servant was transported to Northside Hospital Cherokee for evaluation. Cherokee County fire said the basement's contents were destroyed, as were most of the items inside the home.

There were no injuries in the fire, and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
