Firefighters Rescue Canton Woman From Burning Home

The woman was left with serious burns but was breathing on her own when she arrived at a nearby hospital, officials said.

CANTON, GA — One woman was left with serious burns Tuesday morning after getting trapped in her garage during a house fire, Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services said in a statement.

According to the statement, firefighters were called to a house fire on Piccadilly Place in Canton around 7 a.m. Tuesday by a woman who said she was stuck in the home as it burned down around her.

When first responders arrived on the scene, around 60 percent of the house was involved with fire, fire officials said.

Firefighters managed to force their way into the garage and rescue the woman, who by then had serious burns, and transported her to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta. Firefighter Eric Parr, in the statement, said "The patient was breathing on her own when we arrived at the hospital."

The two-story house was a total loss, and the neighboring house also had significant damage to its vinyl siding, the statement said.

No other injuries were reported, officials said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
