Funeral On Saturday For Teen Killed In Crash

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- Funeral services for the Cartersville teenager killed last week when a car crashed into a house will be held on Saturday.

The funeral for 16-year-old Christian Xavier Austin will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home in Cartersville. The family will accept friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26 at the funeral home.

Christian, a junior at Cass High School, died the morning of Friday, Aug. 19 when the driver of a 2005 Toyota Corolla lost control of the vehicle, ran off Old Grassdale Road and struck a house, the Georgia State Patrol previously said.

The 16-year-old male driver and back seat passenger, 15-year-old Christopher Cunningham of Cartersville, were injured and transported to Cartersville Medical Center.

A GoFundMe page has been created to assist the family with any emergency expenses related to the sudden, unfortunate passing.

According to his obituary, Christian was born in Canton on Aug. 28, 1999, and was the son of Kent Austin and Alicia Rhodes Sutton.

The teenager, who was of the Baptist faith, also enjoyed watching sports, listening to music and playing video games.

He is survived by his parents; brothers, Matthew Sutton and Caleb Austin; maternal grandmother, Gwendolyn Rhodes; paternal grandparents, Mack and Ann Austin; aunts and uncles, Michelle and Kenny Holtzapple, Vanessa Hollingsworth, Jonathan Hollingsworth and Brad and Heather Austin; and cousins, Alexis Rhodes Holtzapple, Kyle Holtzapple, Chessie Holtzapple, Carson Blake and Camrynn Austin.
