Golf Classic Raises More Than $140,000 For Reinhardt Student Scholarships

From Reinhardt University: In the same week Reinhardt University graduated its largest class in history, the 29th Annual Dave Henritze Scholarship Golf Classic raised the most money it ever has for student scholarships.

Nearly 100 golfers enjoyed a day out on the links at Capital City Club-Crabapple to raise $145,000 for Reinhardt student scholarships. The event was held May 2 at the golf club in Milton.

“It was a fantastic day at the 29th Annual Dave Henritze Scholarship Golf Tournament,” said Tommy Beman, chairman of the Golf Classic committee. “We sincerely thank our wonderful sponsors, players, staff and student volunteers, and committee members for their tremendous support of our Reinhardt students and programs. And a special thank you goes to Capital City Club-Crabapple for the wonderful accommodations. Please know you make a difference.”

We see many familiar faces who dedicate their time and gifts year after year for student scholarships, and we meet new friends who want to join in on the good cause,” said Dale Morrissey, director of development and external relations for Reinhardt University. “Mark your calendars for May 1, 2018, for the 30th Annual Dave Henritze Scholarship Golf Classic at Capital City Club-Crabapple.”

The first-place team was The Landon Group with Don Hausfeld, Casey Hild, Matt Hames and Norm Richie. The second-place award went to Coca-Cola’s team of Steve Tully, Ryan Carter, Jim Andrist and Michael Young. The third place team was Hasty Pope with Tom Pope, Chloe Dellaire, Curt McGill and Tyler Williams; and the fourth-place team was Ed Voyles Chrysler Jeep Ram of Dan Gaucher, Danny Cronic, Bill Popp and Mark Goodwin.

The first-place low gross team was the Henritze Grandchildren team of Hunter Henritze, Kirk Adams, Porter Henritze and Paxton Griffin. Longest Drive went to Matt Hames, while the closest to the pin contests on four Par 3s were Tom Pope at No. 3 and No. 13, Tommy Beman at No. 6 and Casey Hild at No. 15. Porter Henritze won the putting contest.

The tournament is named for David Durham Henritze, one of the founders of the Reinhardt University Scholarship Golf Classic in 1989. He chaired the Classic for 10 years and, just before his death in 2000, the tournament was named in his honor. Today, his son, Fred, and grandson, Hunter, carry on his tradition as committee leaders for this event, while the entire Henritze family participates by way of support for the tournament.
