Martin's General Store To Close At End Of February

The Ball Ground-based business has been up and running on Gilmer Ferry Road for nearly five years.

BALL GROUND, GA — A Ball Ground company that sought to revive the general store concept in the city has announced it will close up shop by the end of February.

In a Facebook status posted on Friday, Feb. 1, the family behind Martin's General Store said that after "almost five successful years," it has decided to close its operations to spend more time with their loved ones.

Martin's General Store, which is at 340 Gilmer Ferry Road, sells a variety of produce, candies, ice cream, clothing and home decor, will close on Feb. 28. The owners, Bridget and David Martin, said their family of four recently welcomed a new addition: a baby girl named Juliette.

"Not only were we expecting our third child last year, we also decided to home school our older children at the beginning of the school year," the Martins said on its Facebook page. "Several things have happened last year that made us realize there’s a lot more to life than working all the time. We have met many great people along the way and some that have turned into good friends. With all that being said, we have decided after almost 5 successful years, to spend more time with the family."

The Martins thanked the city of Ball Ground as well as the loyal customers and supporters who patronized their venture over the last few years. Martin's General Store will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday until the end of February, and will be having an everything-must-go, 40-percent off sale.
