Mr. West was a U.S. Army veteran, serving his country in France and Germany during World War II. He retired from Lockheed in the late 1980’s, then bought a brand-new Massey Ferguson tractor and never slowed down.

When not working on his land by the Etowah River in Buffington, he enjoyed “loafering” in the mountains with the love of his life, his wife Ellabel. In his later years, he never missed “band night” where his sons and their “Etowah River Band” played good old country gospel and southern rock.
