Northside Hospital Cherokee Opens 8th Floor Addition

The move is the first step in the hospital's plans to occupy a two-floor expansion of its main tower.

CANTON, GA — Northside Hospital Cherokee this week began moving patients to its new, 40-bed, eighth-floor addition, a move the hospital said is the first step in occupying a two-floor expansion to the facility's main tower.

The new seventh floor, which was originally planned for education space, will now become 32 additional patient rooms to meet community’s growing need for beds. Pending approval from the state, this second step in occupying the new seventh floor could be complete as early as fall 2019.

"One of the most surprising factors in watching Northside Hospital Cherokee’s growth has been how quickly it has progressed from site planning to construction to now expansion," said Steve Aslinger, director of Facilities and Planning for Northside Hospital Healthcare System.

Construction is also underway for a second medical office building to open in July 2019. This 125,000-square-foot space will house physician offices, physical therapy, outpatient lab services, an expanded cardiac rehab facility and a sleep lab that will relocate from Woodstock.

And in the new year, crews will get started on yet another two-floor expansion project in February – this time to the Women’s Center. This project will include enhancements to the special care nursery, elevating newborn care capabilities to a level 2 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Aslinger anticipates completion for this project in 2020.
