Charter schools are monitored yearly and must meet specific standards to be considered for renewal. Cherokee Charter Academy showed high standings in financing and operations and performed higher academically than the average of the four counties it will now serve. Cherokee Charter has placed a strong emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) curriculum at all grade levels which helps students develop advanced critical thinking skills. Each grade level engages on a yearly cross-curricular project and all teachers are trained in problem-based learning. Additionally, all students have personalized learning plans which allow for differentiated teaching based on their individual academic goals.
“We are so proud of our students, teachers and parents for their unending dedication to excellence,” said April Wallis, principal of Cherokee Charter Academy. “This five-year renewal shows that the State Charter School Commission of Georgia is confident in our ability to serve students consistently well and that we provide a viable option for parents.”
