Will the Democrat Party Survive?

Political parties come and go. The Whig party disolved in 1854 to be replaced by the Republican party of John C Fremont and Abraham Lincoln

WILL THE DEMOCRAT PARTY SURVIVE?


The last political party to dissolve was about 163 years ago when the Whig's morphed into the newly formed Republican Party who unsuccessfully ran John C. Fremont in the 3 way contest of 1856.


It is quite possible that voters are now seeing the beginning of the end of the Democratic Party by virtue of internal dissatisfaction and divisiveness.


Can such a fractured party come together to mount a serious challenge to a flawed but productive Republican president?

The run up to the 2020 election shows no worthwhile Republican contender for a challenge to the incumbent President's nomination.


The Democratic Party suffers from so many contenders that they are in danger of having put together a circular firing squad which may well leave no candidate unwounded for their nomination.

Further complicating the Democratic field is a Socialist uprising that is steering the party to the hard Left of the political spectrum and tarring the entire Democrat brand and that is unlikely to play well in middle America.


2020 may well be a watershed in the American political equation, showing that holding California and New York is not enough to provide the required majorities to hold both houses of Congress and the Presidency.


You might note that in the 3 way Presidential race of 1856, the Democratic Presidential win for James Buchanan proved to be the last Democratic presidential victory until the 1884 election, as the Republicans emerged as the dominant party.


So can a fractured Democrat party pull itself together enough to elect a President in 2020?


If not, then it is possible that a third political party will be formed, breaking off from the Democratic Party and probably incorporating 'Socialist' into its title.
