CANTON, GA — The National Weather Service has included Cherokee County in its Winter Weather Advisory that will go into effect from 5 a.m. to noon Monday, Jan. 8. Forecasters are expecting light freezing rain to develop late Sunday into Monday morning, NWS states.
Total ice accumulations could range from a light glaze to less than a tenth of an inch for metro Atlanta and north Georgia, including Bartow, Carroll, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett and Paulding counties.
"While this is not expected to be a major ice storm, it will only take a little precipitation to cause travel impacts," the Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency said. "Please make sure you pay attention as forecast details are fine tuned throughout the evening."

A Winter Weather Advisory means that "periods of freezing rain will cause travel difficulties," so motorists and residents need to be prepared for slippery roads.
NWS notes the freezing rain will result in "difficult" travel conditions during Monday morning's commute. Elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses will be most susceptible to icing, the bulletin states. If you must travel, please slow down and use caution while driving.
