70 Bartow County Students Honored As AP Scholars

BARTOW COUNTY, GA — Seventy Bartow County students mastered the skills, concepts and content necessary to earn prestigious Advanced Placement (AP) Scholar Awards, which were based on the 2018 AP exams administered in May, the Bartow County School System announced Friday.

The College Board’s AP program provides students the opportunity to earn college credit through rigorous college-level work in high school. In Bartow County, nineteen AP courses are offered between Adairsville, Cass and Woodland high schools.

The College Board recognizes four levels of achievement based on student performance and AP exams. The highest level of academic distinction is National AP Scholar, followed by AP Scholar with Distinction, AP Scholar with Honor and AP Scholar.

Two Bartow County students, Jason Burdette (AHS ’18) and Ezra Petron (WHS ’19) qualified for the National AP Scholar Award by earning an average score of 4 or higher on all AP exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.

Nineteen students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average score of 3.5 or higher on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. The honorees include:

“I’m so excited for our students and their AP recognition,” Superintendent Phillip Page said in a statement from the school system. “We are focused on growing this program and look forward to recognizing even more students next year.
