Bartow School System Cancels Classes For Tuesday, Jan. 10

The Cartersville City School system, however, plans to operate on a normal schedule.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- At least one school system in Bartow County will keep students off the road while icy conditions continue to plague the area.

The Bartow County School System has cancelled classes for Tuesday, Jan. 10. Staff members, however, will have to report for work at 10 a.m., the system noted.

This won't be the case for Cartersville City students. That school system, serving students inside the municipal boundary, plans to open up for classes and operations on a normal schedule.

"Everything should be running on regular schedule," the system said on its Facebook page. "Please allow the a.m. buses just a few extra minutes just in case."

Bartow County schools initially said it would run on a normal schedule Tuesday, but later said that declaration was "premature" and road conditions were still being assessed.

Cartersville City Schools still plan to utilize Feb. 21 as a make-up day for having to cancel classes for Jan. 9.

Road conditions remain dangerous across the county. According to Bartow County EMS spokesperson Brad Cothran, that agency responded to a total of 99 calls between 6 p.m. Friday and midnight Sunday. About 48 of those were weather related.

Cothran said numbers will continue to trickle in and a final report should be available later in the week.
