Cartersville, Bartow Schools Make Weather Decision For Jan. 29
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for metro Atlanta and north Georgia from 3 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — The Bartow County and Cartersville City school systems will cancel classes and close its offices for Tuesday, Jan. 29 due to the winter weather predicted to move through the area.
The school system also said it will cancel all school-related activities due to the weather, spokesperson Alisha Evans added. While Bartow County made its decision early Monday afternoon, Cartersville unveiled its announcement on social media around 4:30 p.m. Jan. 28.
"We will continue to monitor conditions on Tuesday to determine if further action is needed," Cartersville City Schools added on its Facebook page. "Decisions about any make-up days will be made and communicated no later than the end of the day on Thursday. Thank you and please be safe during this anticipated period of inclement weather."

Parts of metro Atlanta and north Georgia, including Bartow, are now included in a Winter Weather Advisory for 3 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29. According to the National Weather Service, total snow accumulations will be up to one and half-inch along and north of Carollton, Marietta and Canton. Snow-covered roads and limited visibility are expected, and drivers are strongly encouraged to stay off the roads if possible.

"Lesser amounts of snow are likely right along the Interstate 85 corridor," NWS states in its message. "In addition, any moisture left on the roadways, especially in sheltered or protected areas will likely refreeze, increasing the potential for black ice development."
Other closures around the area include Atlanta Public Schools, Cobb and Marietta schools, Cherokee, DeKalb, Douglas, Fulton, Gwinnett, Forsyth and Paulding County schools. Reinhardt University, Kennesaw State University, Georgia Highlands College and Chattahoochee Technical College are also closed for Tuesday, Jan. 29.
The Georgia Department of Public Health Northwest Health District office in Rome and health department offices in Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Gordon, Haralson, Paulding, Polk, and Walker counties will be closed on Tuesday.
