CARTERSVILLE, GA — Due to the forecast calling for freezing rain to move into metro Atlanta and north Georgia overnight Sunday and early Monday, the Cartersville City and Bartow County school systems have cancelled classes for Jan. 8.
Bartow County Schools said staff members on a 231-day calendar should report to work, however. The Cartersville City School System said on its Facebook page that all 230- and 240-day employees are also to report at 9 a.m. or whenever possible.
"Also, we will make this day up on our previously scheduled inclement weather day, Tuesday, Feb. 20," the system added on its Facebook page.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that "periods of freezing rain will cause travel difficulties," so motorists and residents need to be prepared for slippery roads.
NWS notes the freezing rain will result in "difficult" travel conditions during Monday morning's commute. Elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses will be most susceptible to icing, the bulletin states. If you must travel, please slow down and use caution while driving.
