Cartersville Man Gets Prison Time For Rape Of 12-Year-Old Girl

The Bartow County case came to light after the father of the victim reported that the defendant had sex with his 12-year-old daughter.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — A 21-year-old Cartersville man will spend three years in prison after pleading guilty to statutory rape of a 12-year-old girl, according to the Daily Tribune News.

David K. Smith was sentenced to 20 years and will spend the remainder of his 17 years on probation.

The April 2017 case came to light after the father of the victim reported that Smith, who was 18 years old at the time, had sex with a 12-year-old girl.

A grand jury originally indicted Bradford on eight charges, including one count of aggravated child molestation, one count of aggravated sexual battery and five counts of child molestation.

Prosecutors said the state was willing to dismiss all but the statutory rape charge as part of a negotiated plea deal, according to the Daily Tribune News.

The victim and the victim’s family approved of the negotiated sentence, according to prosecutors.

Bradford will receive credit for time served from April 20, 2018 to May 29, 2018. Under the sentence, he is also ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and complete 100 hours of community service.
