Cartersville School Board Member Resigns Due To Health Concerns

Floyd Braid has served the Ward 2 seat for the past six years.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — A Cartersville City School Board member has resigned from his post, the school system confirmed Monday evening. Floyd Braid's resignation was effective Friday, Feb. 1, and he announced the decision in a letter to Superintendent Marc Feuerbach.

Braid, who has represented the city's Ward 2 for the past six years, said he's stepping down due to health concerns and "the need to address" those issues. His current term expires in December 2021.

"Working in the field of education, Mr. Braid has brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to his school board position," the superintendent said. "Our school system has benefited greatly from his service, and we wish him the best in the future."

The city of Cartersville's charter states the school board can't have two appointed members who are serving at the same time. Another board member, Tim Chason, was appointed in 2017 to serve out the unexpired term of Linda Benton upon her resignation. This conundrum will require a special election to be held to fill both seats.

The school system said Chason announced his intentions to seek a full, four-year term on the board. The Cartersville City Council is expected to consider the call for a special election during its meeting on Thursday, Feb. 7.
