FBI Helps Identify Suspect In Cartersville School Lockdowns
The FBI and police have identified a suspect responsible for a threatening anonymous call was received by school officials Thursday.
CARTERSVILLE, GA -- The FBI and Cartersville Police have identified a suspect responsible for a threatening anonymous call was received by school officials during school hours Thursday. All city schools were placed in a lockdown status, in an abundance of caution though no tangible threat existed, authorities said. Within minutes, multiple agencies responded to each school and assisted with perimeter searches and observation duties ensuring the safest environment possible.
An investigation was initiated by Cartersville Police Investigators in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. A few short hours later, the hoax call, which was placed at random was traced to an individual who has no ties to the City of Cartersville, according to police. This person is also a suspect in several related calls to other jurisdictions involving similar threats. Charges are currently pending from CPD and other agencies for numerous offenses.
