Funeral On Friday For Cartersville Murder Victim

Curtis Arthur Pitts, 31, was found shot to death Sept. 21 outside a subdivision in Butts County, the GBI and the Butts County sheriff said.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — The funeral service for the Cartersville man who was found shot to death last week in middle Georgia will be held on Friday. Friends and family will hold the service for Curtis Arthur Pitts at 11 a.m. Sept. 28 at Owen Funeral Home in Cartersville. The family of Pitts, 31, will accept visitors and friends from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour on Friday at the funeral home, according to Pitts' obituary.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Pitts' body was found around 6:13 a.m. Sept. 21 near the entrance of the Jackson Glen subdivision on Ga. 36. The GBI said the victim appeared to have suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Two Cartersville residents, Steven Alford Jacobs and Emmanuel James Nesbitt, were charged by Butts County Sheriff's Office investigators with aggravated assault and murder in Pitt's shooting death.

According to his Facebook page, Pitts graduated from Cartersville High School, studied at Chattahoochee Technical College and was currently employed at Applebee's. A GoFundMe page has been created to help raise money to pay for Pitts' family to have a proper burial service. As of Thursday morning, a little more than $2,100 has been raised towards the $10,000 goal.

"Our family is overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity in donating to Curt’s funeral," said Arminda Sue Stalnaker, the creator of the GoFundMe page. "We still have a long way to go, but we wanted to thank everyone who has donated. For those of you not able to donate online, cash donations may be dropped off at Owens Funeral Home in Cartersville in his name."
